How to Edit a PDF Online

Editing a PDF used to require expensive desktop software. EveryTask removes that barrier entirely. Open the tool, drop in your file, and start editing in seconds. No account, no software download, and no file size limits.

Everything runs inside your web browser using modern web technology. Your PDF is never sent to any server. When you click Download, the file is assembled locally and saved directly to your device, giving you desktop-level privacy with the convenience of a web tool.

Add Text to Any PDF

The most common reason people edit a PDF is to fill in a form or add missing information. Select the Text tool, click where you want to type, and a text box appears. You can choose from Helvetica, Times New Roman, or Courier, adjust font size, apply bold or italic, and pick any colour. Annotations are moveable and resizable after placement, so you can position them precisely over form fields.

Date stamps work the same way. Click to insert today's date anywhere on the page. Useful for contracts, invoices, or any document that requires a date field.

Sign PDFs Without Printing

The Sign tab opens a signature canvas where you can draw your signature with a mouse, trackpad, or touchscreen. Once saved, your signature is stored in your browser's local storage for future use. Open the Signature dropdown on the toolbar, and your saved signatures appear ready to place. Click to enter placement mode, then click anywhere on the document to position it. No printing, scanning, or photographing required.

Highlight, Annotate and Mark Up

The Annotate tab focuses the toolbar on markup tools. Drag to highlight any portion of text in yellow, or any colour you choose. The strikethrough tool lets you mark text for deletion without removing it from the underlying PDF. Whiteout covers content with a white rectangle, useful for redacting information before sharing. The comment tool adds a sticky-note box with your text, useful for review workflows.

Freehand drawing lets you sketch directly on the page using any stroke colour and thickness. The shape tools add precise geometric overlays, including rectangles, ellipses, lines, and arrows.

Merge, Reorder and Delete Pages

Click the page thumbnail sidebar on the left to see all pages in your document. Drag a thumbnail to reorder pages. Annotations follow their page automatically. Hover over any thumbnail and click the delete icon to remove that page. To combine PDFs, use the Add File button at the bottom of the sidebar. Select one or more additional PDFs and their pages are appended to your current session. When you download, all pages are assembled into one merged PDF.

Why EveryTask Processes Files Locally

Most online PDF editors upload your file to a cloud server, process it, and return the result. This introduces privacy risk, as your documents pass through infrastructure you do not control. EveryTask uses a different model. PDF rendering is handled by PDF.js and PDF writing is handled by pdf-lib, both running entirely within your browser tab. Your files stay private, processing is instantaneous, and the tool works offline once the page has loaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this PDF editor really free?

Yes, completely free with no hidden charges, watermarks, or document limits. Every feature is available without signing up.

Are my files private?

Your files never leave your device. All processing happens locally in your browser and nothing is sent to any server.

What file size can I edit?

There is no file size limit imposed by EveryTask. The practical limit is your device's available memory, which is typically sufficient for documents of any normal size.

Will my annotations appear in the downloaded file?

Yes. When you click Download, all annotations are flattened into the PDF output so they appear as permanent content in any PDF viewer.

Can I edit a scanned PDF?

You can annotate over a scanned PDF, adding text, signatures, and shapes on top of the scanned image. True text editing of scanned content requires OCR, which is not currently supported.
