Whether an agreement is enforceable depends on the document, the people involved, and the law that applies. EveryTask does not provide legal advice.
What matters in a signing workflow is the record around the mark: whether the person was asked to sign, what version they saw, what they did, and when.
A signature image on its own can be useful for everyday paperwork. A signature request adds the document history and audit trail needed when you want a clearer record of the process.
More often than you might think. Most documents are never disputed, and the signature is a formality that marks agreement rather than evidence anyone will examine.
A signature image is usually fine for an internal approval, a form returned to an organization that already knows you, a delivery note, a document where both parties are in the room, or anything you would previously have printed, signed and scanned. That scan was a picture too.
It is thin when the amount is significant, the parties do not know each other, the relationship might sour, or somebody could later claim they never agreed. In those cases you want the record, not just the mark.
They sound like synonyms and are not. The confusion is worth clearing up because the words appear in contracts.
| Electronic signature | Digital signature | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Any electronic mark of agreement | A cryptographic certificate |
| Example | A drawn or typed signature | A certificate-backed signature |
| Evidence of signer | Depends on the surrounding process | Certificate-backed identity evidence |
| Integrity check | Depends on the signing process | Cryptographic integrity check |
| Certificate-based | No | Usually |
| Common in | Everyday business | Regulated and government work |
An electronic signature is the broad term for a mark or action used to show agreement. A digital signature is a certificate-based technical method. The right approach depends on the document and the requirements around it.
Placing your own signature is one job. Getting somebody else to sign is a different one, and it is where a plain PDF editor stops being enough.
Emailing a file back and forth works, and it has a known failure mode: nobody is sure which version is current, whether the copy that came back is the one that went out, or who has signed. With three parties it becomes a thread nobody wants to read.
What a signing flow adds is a record. Each signer gets their own link, and the system records the signing activity against the fixed document revision. When everyone is done, each party receives the finalized document and audit trail.
That record is the difference between a signature image and a managed signing workflow.
Where the document tells you to. Most contracts have a signature block, and using it avoids any argument about whether the mark relates to the agreement.
If there is no block, sign at the end of the substantive text rather than in a margin or on a cover page. A signature floating on page one of a twelve-page agreement invites the question of what exactly was agreed.
Where a document has initials boxes on each page, use them. They exist to stop a page being swapped after signing, and skipping them undermines that.
The free editor places a signature image. It does not create a signing request, invite recipients, or keep an audit trail. Use the workspace signing flow when you need those things.
It does not verify identity. A drawn, typed, or uploaded mark is still only the mark supplied by the person using the tool.

Yes. Upload it as an image and place it. A PNG with a transparent background sits best on the page.
A free account, because a destructive or legally significant edit should be attributable to somebody. Everything else in the editor works without one.
Yes. The signature is remembered for the session, so signing five pages means drawing it once.
A typed name can be used as a signature mark. Whether a particular document and signing method are accepted depends on the people, document, and applicable requirements.
Before you save or download, yes. Once the file is saved the signature is part of it.
